The reason you should drink cold water before singing is to have your vocal cords and surrounding muscles as loose as possible while singing. Cold water tightens them up. When these singing muscles get cold they contract. Contracted muscles creates tension. Therefore drinking cold water before or while singing causes your vocal cords to tense up and creates a poor sound and you lose your high notes at that time..

As vocal athletes, we need to consider every aspect of our existence and how our everyday habits might be impacting the condition of our voice. Garbage in, garbage out right! And the opposite is true also. Goodness in, goodness out. So, today we’re going to look at those foods and fluids that singers need to consider limiting or avoiding altogether, as well as some foods and fluids that are beneficial to the instrument as a whole..

Carbonated Beverages Singers should avoid using carbonated beverages because of their tendency to produce acid reflux. 3. Best Diet For Singers – Milk Drinking milk can increase.
Water is so very very important to us singers! Other than taking in lots of water, we should also consume a balanced diet for our meals, and take lots of whole grains, fruits as well as vegetables.The best diet for a vocalist is one that promotes overall good health and limits or avoids fatty and fried foods. In addition to lots of water, almonds are rich in good protein and make a healthy snack. Fish and chicken are the best meat options.
Eggs, apples, rice, and moderate portions of yellow vegetables are healthy choices.One of the singers in my survey is a vegan and she selects raw foods packed with nutritional value; before singing, she drinks a green smoothie with kale or chard, juicy fruit, flax seeds, dates and water. Fermented vegetables, like sauerkraut and kimchi, are cancer-fighting, mood-improving, probiotic superfoods!Good: High-Water Content Veggies.
When you’re watching your sugar intake or aren’t in the mood for sweet taste, choose veggies that contain a lot of water to keep your voice smooth and hydrated, such as: Cauliflower, 92.1 percent. Celery, 95.4 percent. Iceberg lettuce, 95.6 percent.
Radishes, 95.3 percent.Your vocal cords vibrate very fast, and having a proper water balance helps keep them lubricated. Important note: Foods containing large amounts of water are excellent hydration-conscious snack.Spicy foods can cause stomach acid to move into the throat or esophagus, causing heartburn or GERD. Include plenty of whole grains, fruits, and vegetables in your diet.
These foods contain vitamins A, E, and C. They also help keep the mucus membranes that line the throat healthy.Singers who aren’t fond of bananas or feel it adds to inhibiting the vocal cords can snack on apricots and spinach, both of which contain high levels of magnesium, or dark chocolate, kiwi fruit, turkey and tuna to get tryptophan.
